On 21 November, a mass kidnapping took place at St Mary's Catholic School in Papiri, Nigeria, where students and teachers were abducted.

Initial reports stated that 303 schoolchildren and 12 teachers were taken, but this figure was later revised to 230.

The attack was one of the largest mass kidnappings in Nigeria in recent years.

Most of the kidnapped hostages were aged between 10 and 17.

Families were reunited with more than 100 of the hostages, including schoolchildren and teachers, in time for Christmas.

The group released before Christmas were the last to be freed following the Papiri attack.
