Fired Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Faces Legal Troubles Amidst Affair Scandal
Sherrone Moore was fired as Michigan head football coach after it was found he was having an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Throughout 2025, Moore experienced significant stress and paranoia stemming from rumors that the affair was known on campus. A former Michigan insider stated that staff on the other side were fully aware of the affair, describing it as "too obvious."
Earlier in 2025, Moore had a heated confrontation with defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. During this exchange, Moore expressed frustration over people talking behind his back and raised questions about recruiting. Martindale allegedly responded that their efforts were to aid recruitment. The confrontation culminated with Moore becoming emotional, reportedly crying and slamming down papers.
The staffer involved was described by a former colleague as sitting near Moore's office, indicating the relationship's close proximity. After their breakup, prosecutors allege Moore contacted the staffer by phone and text. The staffer cooperated with the University of Michigan's investigation into the matter.
Moore's booking photo was released on December 18, 2025, following his arrest. He was jailed after allegedly breaking into the staffer's house and threatening to take his own life. Moore entered a not guilty plea during his first court appearance. If convicted, he could face more than five years in prison. His next court date is scheduled for January 22. Moore’s attorney, Ellen K. Michaels, declined to comment on the situation.
