Five councillors from Brent Council have defected from the Labour Party to the Green Party, giving the Greens representation on the council. The defecting councillors are Harbi Farah and Mary Mitchell from Welsh Harp, Iman Ahmadi Moghaddam from Wembley Park, Tony Ethapemi from Stonebridge, and Erica Gbajumo from Brondesbury Park.

Despite the defections, Labour continues to control Brent Council with the current composition being Labour 44, Greens 5, Conservatives 5, and Liberal Democrats 3.

Green Party leader Zack Polanski described the defections as part of a London-wide Green surge. Across London, the Greens now hold 41 out of more than 1,800 councillors across 32 boroughs.

A Labour spokesperson responded by noting that most of the defectors were not eligible to stand for Labour at the next election and defended the party's selection standards.
