Flyers Announcer Tim Saunders Suspended for Inappropriate Hot-Mic Comment
Tim Saunders, the Philadelphia Flyers radio play-by-play announcer since 1997, was suspended for two games following an inappropriate remark caught on a hot microphone during a Flyers 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
The incident occurred in the third period when Saunders mistakenly believed the broadcast was on a commercial break and off the air. He said, "While you’re down there, would you mind blowing me?" after a brief pause. Assistant coach Todd Fedoruk then indicated to Saunders that they were still live on air.
In response, the Flyers and their radio partner 97.5 The Fanatic issued a two-game suspension effective immediately while addressing the matter. The organization stated that the remarks do not reflect its standards of conduct and apologized to listeners, fans, and those affected.
Saunders issued an apology statement taking responsibility for his words and pledging to uphold a higher standard for a safe and respectful broadcast. He has been with the Flyers in his current role for about 30 years and has a broadcasting career spanning 40 years overall.
