Former BNP Leader Nick Griffin Faces Charges of Stirring Up Racial Hatred
Nick Griffin, former British National Party leader and former MEP, aged 66 and from Welshpool, Powys, is accused of stirring up racial hatred. He allegedly shared a private-prosecution cartoon on X in 2021 depicting a giant spider with a Star of David on its head that was described as threatening, abusive or insulting.
Griffin faces two counts of stirring up racial hatred and appeared at Southwark Crown Court via video link, accompanied by solicitor Richard Derby and defence lawyer Tom Edwards. An application to dismiss the charges has been submitted and is scheduled to be heard at Southwark Crown Court on 13 April.
A provisional trial date has been set for 11 May. Judge Christopher Hehir ordered Griffin to return to court for the next hearing in April.
