Former GOP Sen. Ben Sasse Reveals Metastatic Stage-4 Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis
Ben Sasse, the former Nebraska senator who also served as president of the University of Florida, has announced he has been diagnosed with metastatic stage-4 pancreatic cancer at the age of 53. He disclosed his diagnosis last week in a post on X, describing the cancer as a death sentence and acknowledging that he has less time than he would prefer.
Sasse served in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 and stepped down as UF president last year to focus on his family after his wife Melissa was diagnosed with epilepsy and related memory issues. They have two daughters in college, with their youngest turning 13.
Despite the grim prognosis, Sasse intends to undergo treatments and remains committed to fighting the illness, expressing a personal sense of hope grounded in his Christian faith. His announcement received public responses, including a message of support from Vice President JD Vance.
