Former Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Arrested Amid Allegations of Inappropriate Messages and Home Invasion
Sherrone Moore, fired as Michigan's head football coach following the departure of Jim Harbaugh, was arrested amid a controversy involving social-media messages sent to multiple women and allegations related to a home invasion. The Athletic reported that Moore had messaged several women over the past five years, with more than 20 people speaking about his behavior. Four women described a pattern where Moore would like an Instagram Story post and then initiate conversations with them. One notable message sent in November before a Purdue game included a hand-waving emoji; the recipient initially thought the account was fake, but Moore reportedly confirmed it was real.
University officials were made aware of these messages. While they stated the messages were not harassing, they raised concerns about propriety. Moore's attorney, Ellen Michaels, denied any criminal wrongdoing, highlighting that there was no history of domestic violence or prior adjudication. The case is set to be resolved in court.
Moore was arrested on a felony home invasion charge (third degree) alongside two misdemeanors for stalking and breaking and entering without permission. He was released on bond and entered a not guilty plea during a video court appearance on December 12, 2025. His next court date is scheduled for January 22, 2026.
Prosecutors allege that Moore had a long-running intimate relationship with a Michigan staffer, which ended two days before his arrest. Following their breakup, Moore allegedly made contact with the staffer, leading to the investigation and subsequent charges. It is claimed that Moore entered the staffer’s home without permission, threatened self-harm, and made statements such as "My blood is on your hands" and "You ruined my life."
