Former NASCAR Champion Greg Biffle and Family Killed in North Carolina Plane Crash
A Cessna C550 bearing the tail number N257BW, owned by GB Aviation Leasing LLC—an entity owned by former NASCAR champion Greg Biffle—crashed at Statesville Regional Airport in Statesville, North Carolina. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. Eastern Time, with the National Transportation Safety Board leading the investigation.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed fatalities at the scene but initially did not release the identities or number of individuals on board. It was later confirmed that Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their children were killed in the crash. First responders described the scene as a large fire on the runway with debris scattered.
Greg Biffle, aged 55, was known not only as a NASCAR champion but also for conducting relief flights following Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina. Statesville Regional Airport is known to offer corporate aviation facilities serving Fortune 500 companies and several NASCAR teams.
