Former NASCAR Driver Greg Biffle and Family Perish in North Carolina Plane Crash, Friend Receives Holiday Card Posthumously
Seven people died in a plane crash near Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina, including former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their two children Ryder (5) and Emma (14). The crash also claimed the lives of Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth. The Cessna 550 was attempting an emergency landing about 10 minutes after takeoff when the accident occurred.
Before the crash, Cristina Biffle sent a text message to her mother indicating that they were in trouble. The family had been planning a trip to the Bahamas, with the flight intended to go to Sarasota, Florida.
Following the tragedy, Biffle's longtime friend Ron Herbert shared that he received a holiday card from the Biffle family. The card, sent to friends and loved ones, contained a photo along with New Year wishes and was signed by Greg, Cristina, Emma, and Ryder. Herbert described this moment in an Instagram post.
Greg Biffle had a distinguished NASCAR career, securing 19 Cup Series wins, 20 Xfinity Series wins including the 2002 Xfinity title, and 17 Truck Series wins alongside the 2000 Truck championship. He initially stopped racing in 2016 but made a comeback six years later. Beyond racing, Biffle was previously recognized for his humanitarian efforts, including delivering Starlink internet service by helicopter after Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina and assisting a stranded family.
