Gary Danielson's CBS Broadcast Farewell Abruptly Cut Off During Sun Bowl Game
Duke defeated Arizona State 42-39 in the Sun Bowl, marking Gary Danielson's final broadcast for CBS. During his farewell, Danielson's thanks to viewers was abruptly cut off as CBS went to a commercial break, prompting frustration among college football fans. CBS Sports' X account posted a tribute video for Danielson but clipped the ending, excluding the moment of the cut-off.
Danielson spent nearly 20 years with CBS, having joined the network in 2006 following earlier roles at ESPN from 1990 to 1996 and ABC Sports from 1997 to 2005. He announced his retirement at the end of the season in March, noting the timing coincided with CBS's transition to Big Ten coverage. Charles Davis will succeed Danielson as CBS's college football analyst.
Before his broadcasting career, Danielson, now 74, played 11 NFL seasons as a quarterback, spending eight seasons with the Detroit Lions and three with the Cleveland Browns.
