George Clooney and Family Granted French Citizenship
George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, along with their eight-year-old twins, have been granted French citizenship according to an official decree published in France's government gazette. Clooney emphasized that France's privacy laws protecting children from paparazzi played a significant role in the family's decision to establish their base there. Now holding dual US-French citizenship, Clooney described France as a place where the family feels happiest despite their frequent travels.
Amal Clooney, a British-Lebanese human rights lawyer fluent in French, married George Clooney in 2014. The couple owns multiple properties across Europe and the United States, including an estate at Lake Como acquired in 2002, a historic manor in England, and Domaine du Canadel in southern France purchased in 2021. They also have a New York apartment and a property in Kentucky and have sold homes in Los Angeles.
In addition to the Clooneys, filmmaker Jim Jarmusch has expressed his intention to apply for French nationality as well.
