Georgetown University Cuts Ties with US-Sanctioned UN Expert on Palestinian Issues, U.N. Watch Says
Georgetown University has removed U.N. Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese from its list of affiliated scholars, according to U.N. Watch. This removal was reported by U.N. Watch CEO Hillel Neuer on December 21, 2025, who shared screenshots displaying the Georgetown profile before and after the removal.
The action follows U.S. sanctions announced in July 2025 by Secretary of State Marco Rubio against Albanese. Rubio's sanctions targeted her for alleged engagement with the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing her of activities targeting the United States or Israel without their consent. Rubio and a State Department statement described Albanese as antisemitic, supportive of terrorism, and hostile to the United States, Israel, and the West.
Georgetown University had described Albanese as an international lawyer and author on Palestinian refugees in materials related to the removal. Earlier, in February 2024, both France and Germany condemned Albanese for remarks concerning Hamas’ October 7 attacks. France stated that she appeared to justify the attacks, while Germany called her remarks appalling and disgraceful for the United Nations.
