Gerry McGovern Leaves Jaguar Land Rover After 20 Years as Chief Creative Officer
Gerry McGovern has departed Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) as chief creative officer, ending a 20-year tenure with the company. His departure took effect on 1 December 2025. McGovern, who oversaw the design of iconic models such as the Range Rover and Evoque, also led the launch of the radical pink electric Jaguar concept, which drew criticism from figures like Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
The Type 00 electric Jaguar concept, unveiled in pink and electric blue, represented a significant design shift aimed at wealthy, younger, international buyers. It featured an angular design and notably lacked a rear window. McGovern was promoted to the role of chief creative officer in 2021 by then-CEO Thierry Bolloré and continued under his successor Adrian Mardell. Bolloré later scrapped an advanced plan for a new electric Jaguar model.
In August 2025, PB Balaji, a former Tata Motors CFO, was appointed JLR's chief executive. The leadership transition was complicated by a cyber-attack in the same month that halted production at JLR facilities. Although McGovern's departure was initially reported by Autocar India claiming he was removed with immediate effect, JLR had not publicly confirmed the move at the time of publication. The company declined to comment on the departure.
