GOP Challenger John Nagel Accuses Rep. Ilhan Omar of Ties to Feeding Our Future Fraud Scandal
John Nagel, the GOP challenger running against Rep. Ilhan Omar in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, alleges that Omar has ties to individuals implicated in the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal.
Nagel claims that Omar’s 2020 MEALS Act helped create conditions enabling the free meals program central to the fraud, with prosecutors focusing their investigation on fraud occurring in Omar's district.
The Safari Land restaurant is cited in the case; Nagel asserts that Omar held fundraising events there and was connected to staffers and associates linked to the restaurant.
Among more than 70 people indicted in the Feeding Our Future scheme is Guhaad Hashi Said, described by Nagel as an Omar campaign enforcer.
The Small Business Administration is investigating a network of Somali groups in Minnesota tied to the fraud, while the House Oversight Committee is probing Governor Tim Walz’s involvement.
Former President Donald Trump criticized Omar and blamed the Somali community for the fraud. Nagel further alleges there may be an undisclosed money trail leading to Omar and claims not all funds have been returned.
Nagel calls for replacing Omar, as well as a new governor and attorney general, advocating for a purge of Democratic leadership to root out corruption in Minnesota.
