Heathrow to Increase Terminal Drop-Off Charge to £7 from January
Heathrow Airport will raise its terminal drop-off charge to £7 starting in January, implementing a 10-minute limit in drop-off zones along with fines for overstaying. Drivers will be required to pay the charge online by midnight the following day. Failure to pay on time will result in a £40 fine, which increases to £80 if unpaid after two weeks.
The airport explained that the changes are designed to align with other major UK airports, reduce congestion, and encourage the use of public transport. Free drop-off and pick-up options will remain available at Park & Ride car parks.
Earlier this year, Heathrow had already increased the drop-off fee from £5 to £6. In comparison, other airports such as Gatwick, Stansted, Bristol, Leeds Bradford, and Southampton currently charge at least £7 for drop-offs. Edinburgh, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Liverpool John Lennon charge £6, while London City Airport currently offers free drop-off but plans to introduce a charge by the end of the year.
