House DOGE Caucus Aims to Revive Efforts to Cut Federal Spending
Rep. Aaron Bean (R-Fla.), co-chair of the House DARPA Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus, affirmed that the group remains active and intends to hold more meetings to promote government efficiency. The DOGE Caucus, co-led by Reps. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) and Blake Moore (R-Utah), seeks to continue efforts to curb waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending.
The DOGE initiative originated after President Trump appointed Elon Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, targeting up to $2 trillion in federal savings, a goal not met during Musk's tenure. The official DOGE website claims $214 billion in federal savings but has not been updated since early October.
Bean proposes focusing on reducing taxpayer spending by targeting unused government office space for cost savings. He also calls for nonpartisan participation, emphasizing the need for broad bipartisan support to advance DOGE's efforts. While previous DOGE meetings included Republican and some Democratic members, those gatherings have since dwindled; Bean plans to revive them.
This push occurs against the backdrop of the national debt reaching approximately $38 trillion and ongoing discussions aimed at curbing federal spending.
