Hyundai Offices in Seoul Evacuated Following Bitcoin Ransom Bomb Threat
On Friday, December 19, 2025, two Hyundai Group buildings in Seoul were evacuated after a bomb threat demanded a ransom of 13 Bitcoin, approximately $1.1 million. The caller threatened to detonate a bomb in the Hyundai buildings at 11:30 a.m. and threatened a second explosion in Yangjae-dong if the ransom was not paid.
Special forces conducted searches of the buildings but found no explosives. This incident follows earlier bomb threats against Samsung Electronics and a Korean telecom company in the same week, suggesting a broader wave of such threats across South Korea.
The case is part of a wider pattern involving Bitcoin ransom demands in bomb threat situations, with previous examples including a 2020 incident in Japan involving 40 Bitcoin and 2018 cases referenced by U.S. authorities.
