Ipswich Town Narrow Championship Gap with 2-0 Win at Coventry
Ipswich Town defeated Coventry City 2-0 away at the CBS Arena in the Championship on 29 December 2025, reducing the gap to the league's top two teams. Jack Clarke opened the scoring in the 72nd minute, followed by Wes Burns adding a second goal 11 minutes later, both assisted by Marcelino Núñez. Burns marked his second appearance since recovering from an ACL injury with his first goal since April 2024.
Ipswich dominated the first half with around 70% possession, while Coventry managed just one effort on goal via Ephron Mason-Clark. Ipswich goalkeeper Carl Rushworth made important saves, denying early headers from Iván Azón and Jacob Greaves. Coventry's previously unbeaten home record ended with this defeat, marking their first loss at the CBS Arena this season and only their third league loss in 2025.
Prior to the game, Ipswich trailed Coventry by 13 points and Middlesbrough by five, continuing their recovery from a winless run over four away matches. This victory was Ipswich's second over Coventry in December 2025, following a 3-0 home win on 6 December. Coventry are managed by Frank Lampard, with Ipswich under the guidance of Kieran McKenna.
