Iranian Foreign Minister Urges Trump to Defy Netanyahu and Restart Nuclear Talks with Iran
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Araghchi has called on US President Donald Trump to defy Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and resume negotiations with Iran regarding its nuclear program. Araghchi highlighted an unprecedented willingness among Gulf states and other regional actors to facilitate dialogue and underwrite a guarantee for a negotiated, verifiable outcome with full implementation.
Araghchi emphasized that Iran maintains the right to enrich uranium domestically for civilian use and argued that negotiations should not demand Tehran’s capitulation. He described a brief window of opportunity for renewed talks due to post-June regional realignments and a shifting regional dynamic that could enable diplomacy.
He urged Washington to avoid providing unconditional support to Israel and instead engage in a broader regional transformation that might prevent crisis. His appeals come following Netanyahu’s discussions with Trump in Florida concerning potential fresh attacks on Iran and a Gaza peace plan, with Trump warning of a rapid response if Iran resumed nuclear buildup.
Araghchi noted a growing American conviction that Israel may not be a fully reliable ally and observed that Arab allies perceive Israel's brinkmanship as a threat to all concerned parties. He criticized the US pressure policies, stating that sanctions have failed to topple Iran, and emphasized a preference for restoring a functional diplomatic framework rather than abandoning the 2015 nuclear deal.
