J.J. McCarthy's Griddy Celebration Draws Head Coach Kevin O'Connell's ire in Vikings' Win
J.J. McCarthy scored three touchdowns in the Minnesota Vikings' 2025 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on December 14 in Arlington, Texas. He passed for 250 yards, throwing two touchdown passes to Jalen Nailor. McCarthy also added a 1-yard rushing touchdown, which followed a fake handoff to Jordan Mason. After this rushing touchdown, McCarthy performed a Griddy celebration in the end zone that angered head coach Kevin O’Connell. O’Connell criticized the celebration, saying the finish wasn’t "special" and suggested McCarthy should instead showcase his 40-yard dash speed, referencing his fast college time. McCarthy mentioned he had practiced the celebration but was told not to do it again. The win improved the Vikings' season record to 6-8. Tight end T.J. Hockenson contributed four receptions for 66 yards in the game.
