James Hurrell Claims Biggest Victory at PDC World Championship
James Hurrell secured the biggest win of his career by defeating Stephen Bunting 4-3 in a final-set decider at the PDC World Championship. Ranked world No.63, Hurrell outscored Bunting 98-91 and won 18 legs to 12. This victory advances Hurrell to face either Martin Schindler or Ryan Searle in the quarter-finals.
Bunting, who had a fragile year, was eliminated despite moments of strong play, including an 84 average in the first set, followed by impressive checkouts of 161, 121, and 100 in later sets.
In other matches, Luke Littler claimed a 4-0 victory over Mensur Suljovic to reach round three. Jonny Clayton won a nervy deciding set against Niels Zonneveld and will now play Andreas Harrysson, a 50-year-old from Målilla who works in a window-frame factory and aims for a 2026 tour card if he defeats Clayton. Clayton remains the last top-10 player in his section.
Hurrell credited a shift in mindset and increased confidence for his success, noting he overcame a life-threatening twisted-bowel surgery eight years ago that sidelined him for over two years from the sport.
