Jeff Bezos Named Co-CEO of AI Startup Project Prometheus Amid Crowded Market
Jeff Bezos has reportedly become co-CEO of the AI startup Project Prometheus. Vik Bajaj, who has a background at Google's X and Verily, serves alongside Bezos as co-founder and co-CEO of the company. The New York Times cited anonymous sources for this report.
Project Prometheus has raised approximately $6.2 billion in funding and has hired about 100 employees, many of whom were recruited from leading AI organizations including OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta. However, no details have been disclosed regarding the company's base location or how its technology is intended to function.
Bezos stepped down as Amazon CEO four years ago and continues as founder and sole shareholder of Blue Origin.
The venture enters a highly crowded AI market at a time of concerns about financial sustainability within the sector. Notably, investor Michael Burry recently invested $1 billion betting against tech firms Palantir and Nvidia amid critiques related to their earnings.
