Johnny Manziel Withdraws from ESPN College GameDay Guest Picker Role Ahead of Texas A&M vs Miami Matchup
Johnny Manziel was scheduled to appear as ESPN College GameDay guest picker for the Texas A&M versus Miami College Football Playoff (CFP) matchup but withdrew at the last moment. Alex Caruso stepped in as the replacement guest picker after Manziel backed out.
Manziel issued an apology on his Instagram Stories, attributing his absence to illness and stating the reason was beyond his control. However, questions were raised about his withdrawal after he was spotted attending the Jake Paul–Anthony Joshua boxing fight the night before in Miami.
ESPN's Rece Davis addressed the situation during the College GameDay Podcast, alluding to behind-the-scenes issues and making a breakfast-related joke pertaining to the circumstances.
On the field, the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Texas A&M Aggies 10-3. Quarterback Carson Beck led a decisive six-play, 86-yard drive capped by a touchdown pass to Malachi Toney with 8:03 remaining in the fourth quarter. Following their victory, Miami will advance to meet Ohio State in the CFP quarterfinals.
