King Charles III and Prince William to Visit US in 2026 to Revitalize Trade Deal
King Charles III and the Prince of Wales are planning separate trips to the United States in 2026 with the aim of revitalizing a paused trade deal with the US. Advanced talks indicate that King Charles's visit is likely to occur in April 2026. This visit would mark the first by a reigning British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II's 2007 invitation to then-US president George W. Bush.
Prince William's visit to the US is planned for later in 2026, coinciding with the FIFA World Cup hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026. He will attend in his capacity as FA president, and his visit may be timed around the US Independence Day on July 4.
The trade deal, valued at £31 billion, has seen the US pause the tech-investment portion over concerns about trade barriers. Significant pledged investments include Microsoft (£22 billion) and Google (£5 billion). While the UK government states it remains in active conversations with the US regarding the technology deal, progress on broader trade negotiations has encountered challenges such as the digital services tax and US farmers' market access.
The foreign secretary, Yvette Cooper, is expected to accompany King Charles during his visit, while the prime minister is not anticipated to attend. Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the upcoming royal engagements.
