Knicks Triumph Over Spurs 124-113 to Claim NBA Cup, First Trophy Since 1973
The New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 in Las Vegas to win the NBA Cup, securing their first trophy since 1973. The Knicks rallied in the fourth quarter, highlighted by Anunoby's 28 points including five 3-pointers. Jalen Brunson earned NBA Cup MVP honors with 25 points and eight assists.
Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Knicks but missed over 12 minutes due to a left calf issue. For the Spurs, Wembanyama scored 18 points off the bench in 25 minutes in his second game back after a calf injury. Spurs reserve Dylan Harper led his team with 21 points, while Jordan Clarkson added 15. Mitchell Robinson pulled down 15 rebounds for the Knicks.
The Knicks shot 46.7% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range, while the Spurs shot 41.4% and 35.9% respectively. Starting the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run and then hitting 11 of 12 shots, the Knicks took a 100-95 lead. Meanwhile, the Spurs' fourth-quarter field goal percentage dropped to 26.3% (5-for-19).
Harper's three-pointer with 2:42 left was answered quickly by Anunoby with a corner three to restore an eight-point margin at 1:56 remaining. Kolek then added four points to seal the victory for New York. It is notable that the NBA Cup final does not count toward regular-season standings or player statistics.
