Kula Brings $50M of Impact Investing On-Chain with Community-Governed RWA Model
Kula is a decentralized investment firm focused on real-world assets (RWAs) and a governance-first model. It has brought $50 million in impact investing fully on-chain, enabling local communities to govern resources and projects in emerging markets.
Projects include a limestone concession in Zambia, hydropower in Nepal, and electric mobility infrastructure across East Africa. Each project is governed on-chain via a Regional Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) Framework with cross-jurisdictional compliance.
The tokens used are governance tokens tied to projects, not financial instruments for yield or claims. These tokens enable holders to participate in decisions on capital allocation and asset management.
To date, Kula has raised $25 million from partners that align with its governance-first mission. The firm aims to redirect capital to fast-growing economies often excluded from global finance, empowering communities to take part in governance and asset management.
CEO Paul Jackson emphasized that meaningful progress will come from expanding participation in decision-making, not just improving access to financial exposure.
The tokenization of RWAs is projected to top $2 trillion by 2028, indicating rapid growth in on-chain assets with enhanced accountability.
