Labour Chair Confirms Sir Keir Starmer Will Remain Prime Minister Next Christmas Amidst Party Challenges
Labour chair Anna Turley asserted in an interview on Sky News' Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips on 21 December 2025 that Sir Keir Starmer will absolutely remain prime minister next Christmas. She highlighted that Labour has made difficult decisions to stabilise the economy and that early signs of recovery are emerging. Turley pointed out that legislative changes take time to materialise, citing the Employment Rights Bill, which recently passed through Parliament after receiving amendments from the House of Lords.
Despite a snapshot of recent polls showing Labour averaging around 18.2% over the last ten polls, behind Reform UK at 29.4% and the Conservative Party at 18.9%, Turley expressed confidence that people will begin to feel tangible improvements in various areas including pockets, public services, and local communities in the upcoming new year. The Labour Party is also experiencing internal unease and ongoing leadership speculation, with Wes Streeting not ruling out a future leadership bid, and figures such as Andy Burnham and Angela Rayner linked to potential bids.
Meanwhile, Conservative deputy chair Matt Vickers conveyed optimism regarding the local elections, stating that the Conservative plan is to achieve a decisive victory in May.
