Labour MSP Pam Duncan-Glancy to Stand Down Amid Links to Convicted Sex Offender
Pam Duncan-Glancy, Labour MSP for the Glasgow region, has announced that she will not seek re-election to Holyrood next year. This decision aims to prevent distractions arising from her friendship with Sean Morton, a convicted sex offender.
Duncan-Glancy previously stepped down as Labour education spokeswoman after admitting a serious error of judgement related to her links with Morton. Reports by the Daily Record revealed that she had maintained contact with Morton, a former Labour councillor who pleaded guilty in 2017 to possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography.
Morton was sentenced to perform unpaid work and mandated to register as a sex offender; he claimed the images were sent anonymously. Elected to Holyrood in 2021, Duncan-Glancy had been selected to contest a Glasgow seat but has now withdrawn her candidacy. The selection process for Glasgow Kelvin and Maryhill will be reopened to find a replacement.
A Scottish Labour spokesperson stated the decision was made to prevent recent stories from distracting from the party's work and priorities.
