Letter Purportedly Written by Jeffrey Epstein to Larry Nassar Released in New Batch of Documents
A letter, purportedly written by Jeffrey Epstein to Larry Nassar, has been included in a new batch of Epstein-related documents released by the US government. The letter is postmarked August 13, 2019, three days after Epstein's death in custody, and was later found in the jail mail room after being returned from an Arizona prison.
Signed “Life is unfair. Yours, J. Epstein,” the letter references Epstein and Nassar sharing a love of young women and contains a passage implying that the US president at the time shared their view. However, Donald Trump has denied any knowledge of Epstein's wrongdoing. It remains unclear whether Epstein and Nassar had any personal relationship.
Larry Nassar is currently serving a 60-year federal sentence for possession of child sexual abuse images, as well as a 40-to-175-year Michigan state sentence after pleading guilty to seven counts of sexual assault. At trial, more than 150 women, including Olympians Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney, testified that Nassar had abused them.
This document release builds on prior reporting that first disclosed the existence of the letter in 2023 by the Associated Press. The Department of Justice emphasizes that some documents contain unfounded claims about Trump and states that the release preserves legal protections for Epstein’s victims.
