Liam Rosenior Emerges as Leading Candidate for Chelsea Head Coach Position
Liam Rosenior has opened the door to becoming the next Chelsea head coach, acknowledging that there are no guarantees he will remain at Strasbourg for the entire season. Rosenior is reported to be the leading candidate to replace Enzo Maresca, who left Chelsea on January 1, 2026.
Chelsea owner BlueCo has emphasized the importance of handling the transition sensitively, requiring that Strasbourg find a replacement for Rosenior before he can leave the French club. Rosenior is expected to be in Strasbourg's dugout for their upcoming match against Nice, but his availability for Chelsea's trip to Fulham next week remains uncertain.
Rosenior has attracted interest from other clubs and has previously turned down offers from Premier League sides as well as Bayer Leverkusen. He maintains longstanding relationships with three of Chelsea’s five sporting directors, and the club views him as having a tactical style similar to that of Maresca.
While Rosenior is a primary contender, Chelsea are also considering alternative options, including Porto's Francesco Farioli and at least one other candidate. In the meantime, Calum McFarlane, Chelsea’s Under-21s coach, will take interim charge for the fixture at Manchester City on Sunday.
