Lindsey Vonn Becomes Oldest Skier to Win World Cup Race at 41
Lindsey Vonn, aged 41, has become the oldest skier to win a World Cup race. She secured victory in the San Moritz women’s downhill event by 0.98 seconds over Magdalena Egger, having led by 1.16 seconds after the first run. This marks Vonn's 44th World Cup downhill win and 83rd World Cup victory overall.
This win is her first downhill victory in nearly eight years, her previous was in March 2018 at Are, Sweden. Vonn's comeback has been notable, especially competing with titanium implants in her right knee. She had not raced for five years before returning to the circuit last year.
Her recent success positions her as a favorite for the downhill at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan–Cortina. The event schedule includes another downhill race on Saturday and a Super-G on Sunday.
The previous oldest World Cup race winner was Didier Cuche, who won at 37 in 2012. The oldest previous female winner was Federica Brignone, aged 34 last season.
