Liverpool and Leeds Play Out Goalless Draw at Anfield
Liverpool and Leeds shared the points in a 0-0 draw at Anfield, marking the first goalless match under Liverpool manager Arne Slot. This game extended Liverpool's league matches without a goal to 84 under Slot's management.
Leeds' defensive effort was anchored by Jaka Bijol and Pascal Struijk, effectively frustrating Liverpool's attacking attempts throughout the match. Leeds manager Daniel Farke decided to bench Dominic Calvert-Lewin due to his injury history, starting with Lukas Nmecha instead. They were swapped back after approximately 70 minutes.
Ekitiké had three first-half chances for Leeds, including a misdirected header that struck Liverpool goalkeeper Lucas Perri. Perri also spilled another shot, leading to a scramble, and while Wirtz was denied on the follow-up by James Justin.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker achieved his 100th league clean sheet, becoming the fifth Liverpool keeper to reach this milestone after Clemence, Grobbelaar, Reina, and Elisha Scott.
Dominik Szoboszlai tested Perri from distance, and on the rebound, Liverpool defender Ampadu committed a handball, resulting in a free-kick from 19 yards. Ampadu was booked and will miss the next game against Manchester United.
Virgil van Dijk came close to putting Liverpool ahead with a header from Szoboszlai's corner, but the attempt went just wide.
Late in the game, Calvert-Lewin appeared to have scored in the 81st minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside following Bornauw's lay-off. Anton Stach also posed a late threat with two shots, the second being off target.
Arne Slot made a triple substitution in the 66th minute to try and change the course of the match.
