Liverpool Fear Alexander Isak Sustained Significant Injury Against Tottenham
Alexander Isak suffered a significant injury for Liverpool in their match against Tottenham. The injury happened when Micky van de Ven slid and caught Isak just as he was planting to score the opener. Isak had been on the pitch for only 11 minutes after coming on at halftime. Liverpool are awaiting MRI results to determine how long Isak will be sidelined.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot described the injury as not a good sign and said he would provide further updates on Tuesday ahead of their game against Wolves. This injury adds to Isak's disrupted debut season following a long transfer from Newcastle, which included no pre-season and a prior groin issue. So far, he has scored two league goals.
The injury comes at a difficult time for Liverpool, with Mohamed Salah at the Africa Cup of Nations and Cody Gakpo not expected to return until early next year. This leaves Liverpool with limited senior forwards available beyond Isak, as Hugo Ekitiké, Federico Chiesa, and Jayden Danns are also recovering from injuries.
Liverpool are reportedly looking to bolster their attacking options by signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for around £65 million. Personal terms have reportedly been agreed. Manchester City and Manchester United are also interested in the player, but Semenyo is said to favor a move to Anfield.
Before the injury, Isak had begun to establish a productive partnership with Florian Wirtz, and their link had started to click prior to the setback.
