Mamdani Condemns Bondi Beach Hanukkah Attack as Antisemitic Terror but Remains Mum on 'Globalize the Intifada' Phrase
On December 14, 2025, a terror attack targeted the Jewish community at Bondi Beach, Sydney, resulting in at least 15 deaths and dozens wounded. Police described the incident as antisemitic terrorism. The suspects were a father and his adult son; the father was killed at the scene, and the son was shot by police and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Mamdani, New York City's incoming mayor-elect and the first Muslim to win the city’s top office, condemned the Bondi Beach attack as antisemitic terror in a social media statement that garnered more than 4 million views on X by early Monday afternoon. He pledged to keep Jewish New Yorkers safe on the streets, in the subways, and in shuls.
Although Mamdani had signaled after his double-digit victory in the June 2025 NYC Democratic mayoral primary that he would discourage the use of the phrase 'globalize the intifada,' he has not clarified whether he will change his stance on denouncing it following this attack.
A New York Times op-ed highlighted that the Bondi Beach attack illustrates the real-world implications of the phrase. Among the victims was Rabbi Eli Schlanger, tied to Crown Heights, who had written to Australia’s prime minister urging support for Israel.
Fox News reached out to Mamdani’s team for further comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
