Man Shot Dead by Police After Two-Vehicle Collision in Thetford, Norfolk
A man believed to be the driver of one of two vehicles involved in a collision on London Road, Thetford, Norfolk, was shot dead by armed police after leaving the scene while holding a handgun. The incident occurred at about 8:25 pm on Sunday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Armed response officers attended, and the shooting happened a short distance from the collision site. Following the incident, the A11 remains closed in both directions from Thetford Ranges roundabout to Brandon Road roundabout.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation. Assistant Chief Constable David Buckley stated that the force will cooperate fully with the IOPC and will provide body-worn footage and 999 calls. He noted that firearms discharges are rare and acknowledged community concern.
Police have confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
