Manchester United Could Switch to a Back Four Formation, Admits Ruben Amorim
Ruben Amorim has indicated that Manchester United may switch to a back four formation at times, potentially ending his consistent use of a 3-4-3 setup over 59 matches as head coach. The team showed formation flexibility during their 4-4 draw with Bournemouth, defending with a five-man back when necessary and shifting to four when attacking as Diallo moved into midfield.
Amorim stated that the decision to use a back four would depend on the playing style required that week. This flexibility comes in light of key wing-back absences due to the Africa Cup of Nations, with Nampalys Diallo (Ivory Coast) and Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) unavailable.
In transfer news, United are targeting Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo, who has a release clause just under £65m. However, Semenyo reportedly prefers a move to Liverpool. The club is also pursuing holding midfielders: Rúben Neves from Al-Hilal, who is out of contract this summer but may be blocked by a high salary around £350,000 a week; Conor Gallagher, with Atlético Madrid seeking a sale but United preferring a loan; and Tyler Adams, expected to move in the summer for about £40m. Adams sustained a knee injury in the recent Bournemouth game on Monday.
