Marjorie Taylor Greene, days away from stepping down as a Georgia congresswoman, has publicly articulated her break with former President Donald Trump and Republican leadership, framing the rift as the result of years of devotion culminating after the death of Charlie Kirk in September.
In an interview with the New York Times, Greene admitted she was naive to believe Trump was a man of the people. She cited Trump's on-stage remarks about Kirk as a revealing moment of a difference in faith and character between them.
Following these events, Greene abandoned her previous stance of never apologizing and began adopting a more Christian, self-reflective approach. She criticized the Gaza war as genocide and questioned policies she believes fail to prioritize working-class Americans.
Her break with Trump and Republican leaders intensified over a congressional vote to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein, which Greene framed as exposing elite corruption. According to Greene, Trump warned her that her friends would be hurt if the Epstein files were released.
She acknowledged being wrong to accuse Democrats of treason and now sees herself as an outcast from both major political parties. However, she maintains that while she has matured, she has not changed her core views.
