Marjorie Taylor Greene Opposes FY2026 NDAA Over Foreign Aid Concerns, Plans Resignation
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, announced she will vote against the FY2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). She criticized the bill for funding foreign aid and foreign wars, which she sees as conflicting with her America First priorities. In a post on X, Greene stated that the NDAA uses American tax dollars to support foreign aid and foreign militaries, contributing to a national debt currently exceeding $38.39 trillion. She expressed concerns that this debt level threatens the affordability of healthcare and other domestic priorities.
Greene emphasized her support for adequately funding the U.S. military domestically, while avoiding entanglement in foreign conflicts. In contrast, House Speaker Mike Johnson praised the NDAA, highlighting that it aligns with Trump-era priorities and the Republican party’s security agenda. Johnson's statement noted that the NDAA codifies 15 of President Trump's executive orders and advances a Peace Through Strength agenda, aiming to end woke ideology at the Pentagon, secure the border, revitalize the defense industrial base, and restore the warrior ethos.
Additionally, Greene revealed plans to resign from Congress, with her resignation taking effect on January 5, 2026, in the middle of her current term.
