Meera Syal, Gabby Logan, Richard Osman and Others Honoured in 2025 New Year Awards for Arts and Media
Meera Syal has been made a dame in the 2025 New Year honours for her contributions to arts and media. She is hailed as a pioneer for British Asian actors and is known for her roles in The Kumars at No 42 and Goodness Gracious Me.
Roy Clarke has been knighted for his influential work in British television, having created popular series such as Last of the Summer Wine, Keeping Up Appearances, and Open All Hours. Last of the Summer Wine first aired in 1973 and ran for 31 seasons, reaching a peak audience of 18 million.
Paul Elliott received an MBE; he is one half of the Chuckle Brothers whose show ChuckleVision produced nearly 300 episodes. He is also recognised for his long-term support of the Marie Curie charity.
Gabby Logan was awarded an OBE for services to sports broadcasting and charity. She is a presenter on Match of the Day.
Clive Tyldesley received an OBE for services to sports broadcasting and is noted for his commentary during the 1999 Champions League final.
Matt Lucas was awarded an OBE. The comedian and former Great British Bake Off presenter revealed he had to check if the honour letter was genuine.

Richard Osman received an OBE for his services to literature and broadcasting. He is the author of The Impossible Fortune and the Thursday Murder Club series, and previously served as a TV executive and co-host of Pointless.
Charlotte Moore and Alex Mahon were both awarded OBEs. Moore served as BBC chief content officer, and Mahon was the Channel 4 chief executive. Both are considered potential successors to BBC director general Tim Davie.
