Meg O’Neill will become the chief executive of BP from 1 April 2026, succeeding Murray Auchincloss who will step down.

In the interim, Carol Howle, BP's executive vice-president, will serve as interim CEO until O’Neill assumes the role.

O’Neill is currently the chief executive of Woodside Energy and brings significant experience to BP, having previously spent 23 years at ExxonMobil before joining Woodside.

BP chair Albert Manifold emphasized the need for increased rigour and diligence to deliver transformative changes and maximize shareholder value.

O’Neill remarked that BP’s asset portfolio offers potential to re-establish market leadership and grow shareholder value.
