Metaplanet Acquires 4,279 Bitcoin, Raising Holdings to 35,102 BTC
Metaplanet purchased 4,279 Bitcoin (BTC) for approximately $451 million in the fourth quarter, increasing its total holdings to 35,102 BTC. The average price for this recent acquisition was $105,412 per Bitcoin. This purchase supports Metaplanet's long-term treasury strategy, which aims to hold 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. To date, the company's total expenditure on Bitcoin stands at around $3.78 billion, with an average purchase price of $107,607 per BTC.
Metaplanet also operates a Bitcoin income generation unit that uses derivatives to produce recurring revenue; this unit is expected to generate approximately $55 million in 2025. The company is publicly listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the ticker 3350, with shares closing the year up about 8% at 405 yen. Despite this rise, the stock remains down 80% from its all-time high reached in June.
With its current holdings, Metaplanet ranks as the fourth-largest publicly traded company by Bitcoin ownership. The firm's market valuation relative to its Bitcoin net asset value, measured by the mNAV metric (enterprise value to BTC NAV), is just above 1.
