Metaplanet Acquires 4,279 Bitcoin, Raising Total Holdings to 35,102 BTC
Metaplanet has purchased 4,279 bitcoin for approximately $451 million, increasing its total bitcoin holdings to 35,102 BTC. The average purchase price for this transaction was reported at $105,412 per BTC. This acquisition advances Metaplanet's long-term treasury strategy, which includes a target of owning 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027.
To date, Metaplanet has spent about $3.78 billion on bitcoin purchases, with an average buy price of $107,607 per bitcoin. The Tokyo-listed investment and operating company focuses on bitcoin treasury management. Shares of Metaplanet closed the year up about 8% at 405 yen, despite being down around 80% from its all-time high in June.
Metaplanet’s bitcoin income generation business utilizes derivatives to produce recurring revenue, supporting its long-term holdings. This unit generated about $55 million in annual revenue for 2024 and is expected to generate a similar amount for the full fiscal year ending in 2025.
