Miami Upsets Ohio State 24-14 at Cotton Bowl to Reach CFP Semifinal
Miami upset defending champion Ohio State 24-14 at the Cotton Bowl to reach the College Football Playoff (CFP) semifinal. Miami reached the CFP final four with an at-large berth and have now won two CFP games. They will play in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal on January 8 against Georgia or Ole Miss.
Miami's Keionte Scott had a 72-yard interception return for a touchdown, coming just 1:42 after Carson Beck's touchdown pass; Scott has touchdown returns on both of his interceptions this season. Miami wide receiver Jeremiah Smith caught seven receptions for 157 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown on a fourth down in the fourth quarter. Miami running back ChaMar Brown added a 5-yard touchdown run in the final minute. Fletcher, who had 19 carries for 90 yards, was Miami's offensive MVP.
On the Ohio State side, quarterback Carson Beck finished 19-for-26 for 138 yards with one touchdown to Mark Fletcher Jr. and two interceptions. Another Ohio State quarterback, Julian Sayin, was 22-for-35 for 287 yards with one touchdown to Jeremiah Smith and two interceptions, but was sacked five times. The 24 points Ohio State allowed were the most this season for the Buckeyes.
