Netanyahu to Visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago for Gaza Ceasefire and Iran Talks
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with former U.S. President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida for discussions focusing on the Gaza ceasefire, Iran, and Lebanon. The meeting, beginning around 6pm local time, marks their sixth encounter this year as Washington pushes to advance the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan.
The talks are expected to address the formation of a Palestinian technocratic government, demilitarisation and deradicalisation in Gaza, and the establishment of an international stabilisation force for the region. However, precise governance details remain unconfirmed.
Netanyahu prioritises intensifying strikes on Iran, tackling issues related to Lebanon and Hezbollah, and disarming Hamas, conditioning Gaza's demilitarisation accordingly. He stresses that Hezbollah must have no future presence in southern Lebanon, warning that Israel will act if the group re-arms despite aiming for peace with Lebanon.
During his visit, Netanyahu and his wife Sara met with the parents of Ran Gvili, the last hostage remaining in Gaza.
Since October 10, over 400 people have been killed and about 1,000 injured in Gaza, with approximately 85% of buildings damaged and nearly two million people displaced. The UN Security Council has approved the second phase of Trump's peace plan, though specific details about the Board of Peace and International Stabilisation Force remain unclear. Discussions continue to focus on Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon as key agenda items.
