New Banksy Murals Highlight Child Homelessness in London
A new Banksy mural depicting two children lying and looking at the sky has appeared in Bayswater, west London. Banksy confirmed his responsibility for the artwork via Instagram. A second, identical mural was spotted last Friday outside the Centre Point tower in central London, although Banksy’s representatives have not confirmed if it is by him.
The Bayswater mural is located on Queen’s Mews above a row of garages, while the Centre Point mural stands near the Centre Point tower, a site that has long symbolised homelessness. The tower remained empty for decades since 1966 and inspired the name of the Centrepoint charity. The block is now occupied by multimillion-pound flats.
Daniel Lloyd-Morgan told the BBC that the placement of the Centre Point mural is a statement on child homelessness, highlighting how passersby often ignore homeless people. Banksy expert Jason Tomkins noted that the mural clearly addresses homelessness and may reuse a boy motif previously seen in a 2018 Banksy piece in Port Talbot, which is unusual for Banksy.
