Nigeria and U.S. Coordinate on Precision Strikes Against ISIS in Northwest Nigeria
Nigeria's Foreign Ministry has confirmed a structured security cooperation with the United States and other partners, involving intelligence-sharing and coordinated efforts. This collaboration led to precision airstrikes targeting ISIS militants in Northwest Nigeria on Christmas night, an operation announced by President Donald Trump.
The strikes, described by the U.S. War Department as precise and effective, aimed to disrupt ISIS activities after several months of escalating violence against Christians and Christian institutions in Nigeria, including attacks on churches and abductions.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz praised the action, highlighting President Trump's commitment to defending Nigerian Christians. The Nigerian government emphasized that its counter-terrorism approach prioritizes the protection of civilians, national unity, and the dignity of all citizens regardless of their faith or ethnicity.
This operation forms part of a broader campaign targeting radical Islamic terrorism to halt the killings of Christians in Nigeria and other regions.
