NSW Passes Anti-Protest and Gun Law Reforms Amid Emergency Sitting
In the wake of the Bondi massacre, the New South Wales lower house has passed an omnibus bill introducing anti-protest laws and changes to gun regulations. The legislation, which sees the Liberals voting alongside Labor while the Nationals oppose, has triggered an ongoing emergency sitting with proceedings expected to move to the upper house.
The new laws aim to restrict protests, leading to protests by pro-Palestine supporters outside the NSW Parliament. In response, the Greens, pro-Palestine groups, and civil liberties organizations plan to mount a constitutional challenge against the anti-protest provisions, set to begin at 9:15am.
Separately, shareholders from Seven West Media have backed a merger deal with Southern Cross Austereo, creating one of Australia's largest media groups.
