NSW Police Suspend Searches for Missing Teen and Man Following Palm Beach Boat Capsize and Coogee Beach Incident
NSW police have suspended separate search operations for a 16-year-old boy who went missing following a boat capsize at Palm Beach, and a 22-year-old man, Sushan Khadka, missing since New Year’s Day at Coogee Beach. Despite extensive land and water searches, authorities were unable to locate them.
During the New Year's period, six people died at beaches across Australia, including a 34-year-old man who drowned at Green Patch (Jervis Bay).
At Palm Beach, the boat capsize incident resulted in the death of a 47-year-old man who was pulled from the water. A 45-year-old man survived and received treatment. A four-day search was conducted for the 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the capsized boat.
At Coogee Beach, the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club reported that several swimmers were swept off their feet by a rip current amid large surf conditions. Three managed to return to shore, but one swimmer did not.
Marine patrols continue to monitor the Palm Beach area, while land patrols remain active around Coogee Beach.
Additionally, a search for a 32-year-old man snorkeling near Ledge Point, Western Australia, has been scaled back.
