OpenAI Launches GPT-5.2 with Enhanced Capabilities for Professional Workflows
OpenAI has released GPT-5.2, a version of its AI model designed to be faster and more reliable for complex professional workflows. This release targets business use cases by improving functionalities related to spreadsheets, presentations, coding, image perception, long-context understanding, tool use, and multi-step tasks.
To assess performance, OpenAI introduced the GDPval benchmark, which measures capabilities across 44 occupations. GPT-5.2 matched or exceeded human performance in approximately 71% of comparisons, or 70.9% on common professional tasks. Additionally, the model shows enhanced results on testing suites such as GPQA Diamond and FrontierMath, as well as stronger performance in coding, data analysis, and experimental design.
There are three distinct models available via API—Instant, Thinking, and Pro—offered on paid tiers from launch day. The API pricing is set at $1.75 per million input tokens and $14 per million output tokens.
While the GDPval benchmark's external verification status is currently unclear and independent verification is pending, OpenAI points to its agreements to deploy GPT models within U.S. government agencies and with Disney as evidence of growing enterprise adoption. Despite generally positive views from business leaders on AI integration, public concern remains regarding potential job losses attributed to AI advancements.
