Outsider Glengouly Wins Support the Hunt Family Fund December Gold Cup at Cheltenham
On 13 December 2025 at Cheltenham, Glengouly, a 33-1 outsider, won the Support the Hunt Family Fund December Gold Cup. Ridden by Sean Bowen and trained by Faye Bramley, the horse made all the running and held off challenges from Jagwar and Vincenzo on the uphill finish. Jagwar, the 11-4 favourite, finished less than two lengths behind on his first run since winning last season’s Plate Handicap Chase, while Vincenzo was also close but could not catch Glengouly.
The winning owners, the Cheeky Pups syndicate, pledged £10,000 of their prize money to the Hunt Family Fund. This fund was established by BBC commentator John Hunt and his daughter Amy following the tragic murder of his wife Carol and daughters Hannah and Louise. It aims to raise awareness of violence against women and support causes relating to young women.
The Cheltenham week included a dinner and auction that raised nearly £500,000 for the Hunt Family Fund. John Hunt, who called the race for Radio 5 Live, noted he expected Glengouly to be challenged by Jagwar or Vincenzo, but Bowen was able to hold them off in the final stages.
Trainer Faye Bramley, in her first full season with a licence and working from AP McCoy's yard, prepared Glengouly, who had previously been with trainer Willie Mullins. Bramley described the win as a remarkable achievement.
